The olden days

I heard a girl on a video the other day refer to the 1990s as the "olden days."

And I think it's hilarious.

I mean I get it.

We had dial up internet that aounded like the speakers were going to explode. We phoned our friends on landlines, where we had to stand by the phone in the front of the house, near the front door and have conversations where everyone could hear everything. We could choose between mnet and sport, but we couldn't watch both at the same time because the decoder had to be switched manually between the two.

It was a time of interesting things. And we were way cool.

So yes, I suppose things have changed a lot and in the defense of all millennials technology has evolutionised drastically in the last 30 years but that, in my opinion cannot award us the olden day title?!

Surely not?

I mean we actually did have internet and flippy phones with sort of color screens. We could listen to our music through a Walkman and we had PowerPoint where we could make fancy documents with slanted words and different colors.

And if you think about it, things have changed alot but also, have they not technically just been improved on?

Walkmans became, ipods and mp3 players, which then became Spotify. Mnet movies, became dstv snd then Netflix and Instead of PowerPoint we now use Adobe Indesign and Canva.

Which means that in the last 30 years technology has improved significantly. But, once again, cannot categorise us as olden.

In my opinion the olden days are around the 50s. From the 60s onward don't feel like it's that long ago because our parents made us listen to their music and watch their movies so even if we didn't live through it, it feels like we were there for it all.

Time is a funny thing and I suppose 30 years is a lifetime ago for someone born a few years ago so I get the olden day thing.

But GenZ's please be careful with our millennial hearts. We are very sensitive and a little dramatic, yes but I don’t know how we might react in future if you keep dressing like we did in the 90s. We are having major flashbacks and it's staring to give us whiplash.

And for some reason we are predisposed not to ask for help with that whiplash so we will continue to suffer in silence and apologise to you for it.
